El baloncesto se juega en una superficie rectangular bajo techo o al aire libre cuyas medidas son entre los 26 m de largo por 14 de ancho y el fondo debe continuar un metro mas por lo menos. Las líneas que limitan la cancha deben estar bien definidas, de modo que no exista ninguna dificultad para divisarlas. Las líneas que delimitan la longitud del terreno se llaman laterales y las que delimitan la anchura, fondo.
